This manual focus lens incorporates CRC (Close Range Correction) which gives excellent corner-to-corner sharpness, even at close range. Some field curvature that may be troublesome if you shoot perfectly flat subjects at close range. Some coma is visible in the corners wide open. Prone to CA, flare and ghosting, but stopping down helps. Some vignetting wide open, but this is gone at f/4. Some barrel distortion. Best performance overall in the range f/5.6 to f/11.

The mechanical construction is exellent.

Central hot-spot when used for IR.

The AI version appeared in 1977. It was replaced by an optically identical AI-S version in 1981.
