Nikon 35-70mm f/3.3-4.5 AF

Check availablity: eBay.

Introduced in 1986 as the “kit” lens for the Nikon F501/N2020 SLR camera, it was one Nikon's first consumer class auto-focus lenses.

Optically, this lens is below average. It is fairly soft wide open, and improves all the way down to f/8-11. Watch out for flare and ghosting. Its main advantage is that it is compact and light weight, and you should be able to pick it up for a song these days.

The lens has a rotating front element. The mechanical build quality is significantly lower than its manual focus predecessor. It is mainly made of plastic, with a metal mount.

It has a narrow manual focus ring at the front made out of compressed compound plastic, and is obviously not made for manual focus.

Uses lens hood HN-2.
