Good sharpness and contrast. Working distance from the front of the lens to the subject is at 1:1 is about 7 cm. Front element deeply seated minimises need for lens hood.

The AF and AF-D versions share the same optical formula.

Not a suitable for IR work. There is an obvious hot spot, and loss of sharpness.
