This dedicated flash for Canon and Nikon has an impressive list of features. It has, for instance, rear/2nd curtain sync, FEC/FOLC, and modeling light. (However, FP/HSS is missing.)
It can be used as a TTL remote for both Canon and Nikon, with three groups (A-C) and four channels (1-4). Its unique feature is that a single unit will serve as a remote wireless flash for both Canon's E-TTL and Nikon's i-TTL. There is two different models, one for Canon and one for Nikon, compatible with the dedicated TTL hotshoes of each brand. But when used as a wireless remote, it will respond to the protocol for either system if set to “CN” wireless mode. In other words, the Nikon version of the YN-565 will be able to receive Canon E-TTL wireless signals and vice versa. It also has “C” and “N” modes if you prefer the flash to respond to only Canon or Nikon masters respectively.
A strange remark appears on p. 20 of the user manual: “This product has a designed light head zoom range of 24-85 mm, and is currently not compatible with full frame camera system. ” Beside the fact that the zoom-head range is otherwise listed as going from 24 to 105 mm, this is the first flash I've seen that optimizes the zoom head for the DX/APS-C crop format.
May use YoungNuo external power packs SF-18C or SF-17C.
