Olympus Corporation is a Japanese manufacturer of cameras, optics and reprography products. The company was established as Takachiho Seisakusho in 1919, and initially specialized in making microscopes and thermometers.

Olympus went to become a successful manufacturer of compact photographic equipment, specializing in compact models imcluding the innovative PEN-series of compact cameras and the OM system SLRs. With the rise of digital, the OM-system was abandoned and replaced with the made-for-digital Four-Thirds system in 2003. In 2008, Olympus along with Panasonic introduced the even more compact mirrorless Micro Four-Thirds system.
