Sunpak Model 622 adpter for Canon SX50 Digital Camera

I have a Sunpak model 622 flash system that I have used with my F1 and E1 Canon 35.mm cameras for a long time. I have recently acquired a Canon SX50 digital and am hardpressed to find out how or if it can be used. I never used a 'hotshoe adapter' before and have always ued the direct connect method. Web information seems very sparse relative to mating old and new technology.

I can still use the 622 with film, but I would like to use it to augmant the built in flash from the SX50 as I have better control, even wi th all fo the new bells, whisltes, and "PhotoSHop....."
