Sony Corporation is a multinational corporation headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. It is world's fifth largest media conglomerate and also one of the leading manufacturers of electronics, with products targeted both for the consumer and the professional markets. Sony is also a major supplier of image sensors for compact cameras and DSLRs to other major brands, including Nikon and Pentax.
Sony entered the digital camera market with the Mavica FD in 1997 (using floppy disks to store images), and later had great success with a string of point&shoot digital cameras dubbed CyberShot. In 2005, Sony bought Konica-Minolta's SLR/DSLR business and entered the DSLR market. Sony also produces compact mirrorless system cameras based upon its new NEX-system.
